LILESVILLE — Two people were hurt and westbound Highway 74 was temporarily shut down mid-afternoon Thursday as half a dozen public safety agencies responded to a two-car collision.
The incident was reported shortly before 2:30 p.m. approximately 0.9 miles west of the R.W. Goodman bridge spanning the Pee Dee River. At about that time, the front of a blue Honda CRV and the right side of a white Toyota Tercel came into contact. Five people were in the two vehicles. Two were taken to a nearby hospital for further medical treatment.
A neighbor of the driver of the Tercel said the woman was on her way home from picking up her child from school. First-responders worked to free one entrapped individual from the Tercel.
Personnel from the Lilesville Fire Department, Anson County EMS, Anson County Sheriff’s Office, North Carolina Highway Patrol, Lilesville Fire Department, Anson Rescue Service and FirstHealth EMS responded to the scene. Officials were able to get traffic moving, albeit slowly, a little bit after 3 p.m.
A trooper with the N.C. Highway Patrol said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
