Police seek man who fled from Sheriff’s Office

Update Friday, 11:35 a.m.: Sheriff Neil Godfrey said Kevin Wesley Sheffield was apprehended at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

CARTHAGE — Moore County sheriff’s deputies are seeking to locate a man who fled from an interview room earlier today inside the Moore County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 12:30 p.m., Kevin Wesley Sheffield was being questioned for allegedly breaking into a convenience store and several vehicles earlier Thursday, Moore County Sheriff Neil Godfrey said in an email.

Sheffield simply walked out of an unlocked interview room while the investigator had stepped out to obtain an arrest warrant, Godfrey detailed.

Sheffield, 27, is a white male who stands 5 feet 8 inches. The suspect was last seen wearing a red shirt, blue jeans and grey socks.
