Obituary: Douglas Benoist

Douglas Edward “Pooh” Benoist went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 26, 2015.

He was born June 23, 1945 in Richmond County, a son of the late James Luther and Callie Scott Benoist.

He retired from Richmond Yarns after working there many years. He was a member of the East Rockingham Fire Department since 1976 and was a member of East Rockingham United Methodist Church.

obitHe was preceded in death by his sister Linda Huggins of Rockingham, as well as his two brothers, Clayton Benoist of Hope Mills, N.C., and Mitchell Benoist of Lexington, N.C.

He is survived by his family Trey, Tracey and Dylon Goodwin of the home; Wife, Kathy Benoist of Rockingham; Brother-in-law Sanford Huggins of Rockingham; Father-in-law Tom Goodwin of Rockingham; Special nephew and niece Sandy and Tina Huggins and special great niece Jessica Huggins and her son Hunter O’Tuel of Hamlet.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at East Rockingham United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 29 at East Rockingham United Methodist Church with Rev. Pat Sykes officiating. Burial will follow a Richmond County Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to East Rockingham Fire Department, 487 Airport Rd. Rockingham, NC 28379 or Richmond County Hospice 1119 N. US Hwy #1 Rockingham, NC 28379.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Richmond County Hospice for their dedicated care and devotion and special thanks to his nurse Cayce Terry for everything that she has done to help us during this difficult time.
