CHERAW, S.C. — The Town of Cheraw has been awarded $577,767 in Neighborhood Initiative Program Funds from the South Carolina Housing Finance and Development Authority.

The funds will allow the town to demolish and green over 40 blighted properties in an effort to stabilize neighborhoods and prevent avoidable foreclosures.

“Establishing a thriving and healthy community is crucial to Cheraw’s future,” said Mayor Andy Ingram. “Receiving these funds will provide the Town an opportunity to remove blight and provide safer neighborhoods for its residents. This end product will also allow a more inviting environment for business and economic investments.”

The program was established to allow communities to prevent foreclosures and stabilize property values through the removal of blighted structures in targeted areas and encourage redevelopment and revitalization in areas that are suffering from blight and decline.
