Rural economic development specialist to speak in Wadesboro

Sen. Tom McInnis is inviting community leaders and members of the general public to attend a presentation on the Rural Development Grant Program on March 26 in Wadesboro.

Dr. Patricia Mitchell, assistant secretary for Rural Economic Development at the North Carolina Department of Commerce, will speak about grants available to local governments that can be used on projects that will lead to the creation of new, full-time jobs.

The session is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 118 E. Morgan St., Wadesboro.

Mitchell oversees the newly created Rural Economic Development Division, which includes two of the programs being transferred from the N.C. Rural Economic Development Center. These programs provide assistance for building reuse and restoration, and water and sewer infrastructure. The Division of Community AssistanceNC BroadbandMain Street and the Appalachian Regional Commission will also be consolidated into the new Rural Division.
