Obituary: Royce Stutts

Royce Elmer Stutts, 89 of Rockingham, N.C., passed away on Friday Feb. 27, 2015 at his home.

He was born August 10, 1925 in Marston, a son of the late Barney Franklin Stutts and Flora Lee Efird Stutts. He was married to the late Ophelia Catherine Shaw Stutts.

flagRoyce served in the U. S. Navy during World War II, was an automotive mechanic with McInnis Ford and in 1965 helped to form and be the chairman of the Automotive Vocational Education Department with RTI. He was an active member of the Rockingham Lions Club, American Legion Post, Millstone Men of the Church, a member and Elder of Rourk Presbyterian Church. Royce was also an avid bowler, former state champion bowler and co-owner of O K Bowl.

Surviving are daughter and son-in-law Cathy and Dan Portaro of Durham; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Carol Stutts of Aiken, S.C.; grandchildren Gaetana Rampley and husband Kevin of Canton, Ga., Major Jacob Portaro and wife Sarah of Crofton, Md., Jeffrey Portaro and wife Heather of Monroe, Kim Huffstetler and husband Justin of Chapin, S.C., Christian Stutts of Aiken, S.C.; great-grandchildren, Cora, Gavin, and William Rampley, Marc , Noah, Alaina and Grayson Portaro.

Funeral services were held Monday at Rourk Presbyterian Church. The family received friends at the home and at Millstone Community Center following the funeral.
