HAMLET, N.C. — Oscar Lee Carpenter Jr. died peacefully Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Sandhills Regional Hospital in Hamlet,  at the age of 68.

Lee was born May 19, 1946 in Hamlet to Oscar Lee Carpenter Sr. and Martha Wilson Carpenter.

He was a graduate of Hamlet High School and proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. After leaving service, he returned to Richmond County and eventually earned his plumbing, heating and electrical license at Richmond Technical Institute. He used these skills in many homes in Richmond and surrounding counties and for many years as an employee of Abbott Laboratories of Laurinburg. He was a long time member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church and attended First United Methodist Church in Hamlet in his last years.

Lee was a devoted father, brother and friend. He is survived by his son, Matthew Carpenter of the home; daughter Donna Carpenter Taylor and husband Robbie of Hamlet; sisters Carolyn Lloyd and Joyce Carpenter, both of Clayton NC and Vicki Thomas of Charlotte; his grandsons Presley and Gabriel Taylor; and very special friends and extended family.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31 at First United Methodist Church in Hamlet, immediately followed by a memorial service.

Watson – King Funeral Home in Hamlet is assistng the Carpenter family.
