HAMLET — Christi Miles and George Yandle have been recognized as Richmond Community College students of distinction and winners of the school’s Academic Excellence award.
The two will compete in Raleigh for statewide recognition. Both stood in the spotlight Tuesday night during the RCC Board of Trustees monthly meeting.

Miles is pursuing an associates degree in accounting and credited RCC with changing her life through new relationships, both personal and professional. She works with Oz Queen, a certified public accountant in Hamlet and a former RCC instructor.
“My career’s just taking off,” Miles said. “My greatest achievements made to date were made here.”
Miles said she aspires to graduate in May and one day open her own accounting firm.
Yandle also expects to graduate in May and continue his education at UNC-Pembroke. He plans to major in mass communications and eventually become a librarian. With any luck and execution of a good plan, Yandle said he’d like to return to RCC as an instructor.
Handle began his studies at RCC in the fall of 2011. He called it “a life-changing experience” and noted he’s the first in his family to attend community college and will be the first to attend a four-year university.
Yandle also is an RCC student ambassador.
