HAMLET — Today is the last day to register for this year’s Senior Games of Richmond County.
Coordinator Pete Wheeler told The Pee Dee Post this morning that 122 individuals have registered — and that doesn’t include the roster of softball players she expects to receive later today.
Softball and cycling are the newest events added to the annual affair, which celebrates healthy and active lifestyles of area seniors. Participants must turn 50 before Dec. 31 to be eligible for this year’s games, which will run run April 13 to April 27 at various venues across the county.
Wheeler said there’s something for everyone — team sports such as softball and tennis, individual sports such as golf, cycling, horseshoes and bocce, as well as performing arts, heritage arts and visual arts competition.
Seniors can register at the Hamlet Senior Center until 5 p.m. today. The center is located on Lakeside Drive beside City Lake. Call 910-582-7985 for more information.
Meanwhile, planning continues for the yard sale and car wash scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Hamlet Senior Center. Volunteers from the Hamlet Senior Center and the Richmond Senior High School Beta Club will host a yard sale and car wash. If you have items you wish to donate to the yard sale, please drop them off at the Hamlet Senior Center by March 20.
