Free seminar to cover small business start-up essentials

HAMLET — Representatives from the N.C. Department of Revenue and N.C. Secretary of State offices will participate in a free seminar from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, March 26, highlighting the essentials necessary to start a small business. The workshop will be held at the Cole Auditorium on RCC’s main campus in Hamlet.

SBC-Logo“Many small business startups have questions about raising venture capital when they’re starting or growing their businesses, so the secretary of state presentation will focus on the regulatory issues that they should be aware of when planning securities offerings to help finance their operations, as well as what they need to know to be informed investors themselves,” said NCSOS Investor and Business Outreach Specialist Leo John.

John will also briefly go over information from the state’s Corporations and Trademarks divisions regarding creating a corporate entity and registering a trademark.

The Department of Revenue representative will discuss the basics of tax compliance ranging from registering a business to withholding from employees and sales and use tax requirements. Information will be provided on a program for businesses that have fallen behind on sales and use withholding, as well as other trust taxes.

The seminar is being sponsored by the Small Business Center of Richmond Community College, in conjunction with the N.C. Department of Revenue and N.C. Secretary of State. The presentation will be held at the Cole Auditorium on RCC’s main campus in Hamlet.
