Carter earns criminal investigations certificate

ROCKINGHAM — Det. Gary C. Carter Jr., a detective with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, recently completed the Criminal Investigation Certificate Program at the North Carolina Justice Academy.

On Jan. 29 Carter became the sixth of nine investigators at the office to obtain the certificate and seventh overall, including Sheriff James Clemmons Jr. Clemmons said the three remaining investigators should earn the certificate, which includes accumulating 500 hours in traditional or online classroom settings, by the end of the year.

Carter, a South Carolina native, has 15 years of law enforcement experience. He started his career with the Hamlet Police Department.
