* Feb. 19: Automatic weapons stolen from sheriff’s office cruiser
ABERDEEN — A Hamlet man suspected in a rash of vehicle thefts, including that of a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office patrol car that yielded two automatic weapons, was arrested early Saturday in Aberdeen.
Shortly after midnight, the Rockingham Police Department was notified that the 1997 Ford F-150 which had been reported stolen had been located by a private company police officer in Aberdeen. Detectives from the Rockingham Police Department and the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded where they were assisted by the Aberdeen Police Department.
After the initial investigation of the crimes reported to RPD, it was determined that the suspect, Aaron Michael Dohogn, 33, was responsible for the larceny of the truck, as well as breaking and enterings to motor vehicles on Covington Street, North Randolph Street, and on the property of Pee Dee Electric.
The weapons, Heckler & Koch UMP submachine gun and a Colt M4 carbine 5.56mmm rifle, were recovered, according to a sheriff’s office news release. The weapons had been stolen from the locked trunk of a sheriff office patrol car while it was parked on a city street. Both the sheriff’s office and Richmond County Crime Stoppers were offering cash rewards for the arrest of the suspect wanted in connection to the stolen weapons. It was not immediately known if there would be such a payout.
Dohogn was charged with four counts of breaking and entering to motor vehicle, one count of felony larceny, five counts of misdemeanor larceny, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a machine gun, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, four counts of injury to personal property and one count of first degree trespassing.
Also in the truck was Katie Marie Johnson, 33, of Laurel Hill. Johnson was charged with possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a stolen machine gun and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
Dohogn was booked and held a $312,000 secured bond. Johnson was processed and held on a $100,000 secured bond. Both are being confined at the Richmond County Jail.
The case is still being investigated and additional charges are pending, authorities said.
