Brewer, Goodwin, Faw take first at Beta Club convention

​​GREENSBORO — Six members of the Rockingham Middle School Beta Club placed in the top three on Feb. 9 and Feb. 10 at the North Carolina Junior Beta Club Convention in Greensboro.

The Rockets competed against more than 100 schools and 3,000 students across the state. Ninety-eight members of the Rockingham Middle School Beta Club traveled to and participated in the event.

Caleb Brewer, Colin “C.J.” Goodwin and Emily Faw led the Rockets with first-place finishes in cross stitch, science and speech, respectively. All three earn berths to the National Junior Convention June 25 to June 29 in Nashville, Tenn. It’s Brewer’s second state convention victory; he competed last summer in the national convention and placed fifth in cross stitch.

Jessica Matheson (acrylic painting) and Nicholas Pinto (social studies) each placed second within their respective categories.

In addition, Lee Haydeen placed third in the essay contest and the school team placed third in the arts and crafts sweepstakes.
