HAMLET, N.C. — Vernon Lee Henderson, 83, of Hamlet died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born July 24, 1931 in Richmond County, a son of the late William Robert and Ora Townsend Henderson.

Surviving, His wife of 55 years, Lucille Swails Henderson; daughters, Luann Morse and husband Duff of Rockingham and Marsha Williams and husband Bobby of Hamlet; a brother, Samuel Lamar Henderson and wife Margaret “Maggie” of Jacksonville, N.C.; special sister-in-law Eloise Stewart of Hamlet; grandchildren, Robert “Robby” Williams II and Jonathan “Johnny” Williams both of Hamlet, Thomas Greene of Buies Creek, N.C. and Ethan Greene of College Park, Md.; great-grandchildren, Ian and Noah Williams; Four nephews; and a special thank you to his caregivers during his illness: Tiny Collins, Regina Shankle, Bonnie Beasley, Gina Kennelly, special friend Bea Duff and caregivers from Community Home Care and Hospice.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Watson-King Funeral Home in Hamlet prior to the service and other times at the home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Watson-King Funeral Home Chapel in Hamlet with Rev. Harris Jordan, David Montgomery and Thomas Greene officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond County Memorial Park.
