Obituary: Neal Smith

Mr. Neal Smith, 84, of Hamlet, N.C., died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, at Richmond Pines in Hamlet.

He was born Sept. 11, 1930 in Hamlet, son of Whiteford and Vada Smith.

Mr. Smith served his country as a medic in the U.S. Air Force and later became a nurse with Sheppard Pratt Hospital in Baltimore, Md. He moved back home five years ago to help with his family. Neal loved his family, country and Baltimore.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; brothers, Whiteford (“Son”), Samuel and Richard, all of Hamlet, Claude, (Okla.) and Martin Smith (Va.); sisters, Ula Beth Smith, of Hamlet, Carrie Hodges (“Sis”), of Sanford and Louise Hollingsworth, of Roseboro.

He is survived by his two sisters, Cornelia “Connie” Cottingham, of Rockingham, and Ann Woody (Larry) of Louisburg; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The Smith family would like to give a special “Thanks” to his nephew, Ronnie Jacobs and niece, Candy Jacobs Leviner for their special care they gave Neal since his move back home and his “Final Train Ride”!

A graveside memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Richmond Memorial Park with Bishop Marvin Taylor officiating.

Harrington Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family of Mr. Smith.
