Former Ellerbe resident celebrates 102nd birthday

Celebration requires two cakes

ABERDEEN — Extended members of the family of Dovie Jane Mabe Connor, formerly of Ellerbe, celebrated her 102nd birthday on Sunday at her home in Aberdeen.

Connor was born in Stokes County on Jan. 25, 1913 and is a twin. She is one of 12 children. Connor married Glenn Tathan Connor in Cheraw, S.C., on Nov. 21, 1938. They made their home in Ellerbe and later moved to Moore County.

The couple had 10 children, one of which passed away as an infant. Connor worked as a homemaker as well as on the family farm, where they raised livestock, tobacco, cotton and a vegetable garden.

The two were married for 39 years; Glenn Connor died in 1986. Sharing in the family fun, from Aberdeen to other places, are nine children, 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
