Board of Elections reaches out to infrequent voters

The Richmond County Board of Elections office has recently mailed out a confirmation mailing to approximately 6,000 voters in Richmond County with which the office has had no contact with in two federal election cycles.

county_logoGeneral Statute 163-82.14 (d) requires county boards of elections to conduct a systematic program to remove from its list of registered voters those voters who have moved either within or out of the county.

The law states that “a county board shall remove a voter if the voter fails to respond to a confirmation mailing and does not vote or appear to vote after two statewide general elections. A confirmation mailing must be sent to all voters, unless the county board has been able to confirm a voter’s address by another means (voting, attempting to vote, signing a petition, running for office, completing a voter registration form, etc.).”

Confirmation mailings are only sent to active voters. The confirmation mailing process must be completed by April 15 of every odd-numbered year.

If the voter lives at the same address and wishes to remain on the active vote rolls, the individual should complete the information on the back of the card and mail it back to the board of elections office — no stamp required.

If a voter receives this card and fails to mail it back they will become inactive.
