LEDBETTER — There is no one person more important than another in any volunteer fire department. On the other hand, it never hurts to recognize a job well done.

More than 75 members and friends of the Northside Volunteer Fire Department did just that Saturday night at Station No. 2, located in the Ledbetter community on Scott McDonald Road. Chief Edward Causey led the presentation of awards.
There were three of them. A plaque for Donna Wright, a former board member. Another for Michael Broadwater, voted by his peers as department Fireman of the Year. The award has been presented each year since 2008. Last year’s recipient was Robert Hurst.
The third for Dalton Millen, voted by his peers as Junior Fireman of the Year for the fire department responsible for the largest coverage area in Richmond County. It is Millen’s last year as a junior firefighter. Last year, Edward Causey II earned the plaque.
After a dinner that included steak, dinner, rolls, baked potatoes and salad — with plenty of dessert options — firefighters anticipated a number of door prizes, ranging from cases of motor oil, free oil changes and retail store gift certificates. The door prizes were donated by several local businesses, including Maness Tire Pros, O’Reilly Auto Parts, Walmart and others.
