ROCKINGHAM — More than a dozen children, many of whom could be the next generation of firefighters, took part on Saturday in the Rockingham Fire Department’s first Christmas party for kids in nearly a decade.

The event came a day after the fire hall hosted the first Christmas gala for grown-ups in the same amount of time. Chief Harold Isler, who missed the city’s annual banquet on Dec. 4 for the birth of his on, Harold “Tre” Isler III, said both parties were all but mandatory affairs as long as he’s chief.

In the dining area of Station 1 on Lawrence Street, firefighters, their partners and their children looked like they were dong anything but work.

After a lunch, Santa Claus arrived by fire truck and took the comfortable leather recliner to distribute gifts for all 15 children in attendance.

Some children hesitated when asked if they’ve behaved this year. One young boy looked to his parents for the right answer.
