Members of the student body have spent the past two weeks collecting the items and bringing them to school. The items will be donated to the Place of Grace Rescue Mission.
The mission’s aim is to transition members of the homeless population in Richmond County to self-sustaining lives and help them to become productive members of society by providing them much-needed services. It all starts, of course, with the basics — towels, wash cloths and personal hygiene items such as deodorant, soaps, shampoo and more.
School staff said the idea is to expose students in a community service project while at the same time showing them they might have more in life to be thankful for than originally considered.
The students planned to deliver the items to the East Rockingham facility on Airport Road Friday afternoon after school.
