ROCKINGHAM — A Hamlet man has been charged with attempted murder after trying to follow through on a threat to kill another man.
A warrant for the arrest of Glen Allen Harris IV, 21, alleges that Harris fired a .40-caliber firearm on Monday into a 2004 Ford Ranger pickup truck while the truck was being operated by Joseph Tabor McQueen. It’s unknown if McQueen was injured in the incident.
Authorites allege that Harris called Glen Harris III to say that “he was going to kill McQueen.”
Harris also was charged with discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling or vehicle. Court records show he also has been charged with second-degree trespassing, resisting a public officer, simple possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance and simple affray, which is defined as “a fight between two or more persons in a public place so as to cause terror to the public.”
John Gerald of the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office completed the request for a warrant. Magistrate Carrie B. Prelipp ordered Harris held on a $250,000 secured bond. He is currently confined at Richmond County Jail in downtown Rockingham. Harris’ first scheduled appearance in Richmond County District Court is Jan. 8.
