ELLERBE — There’s often one person, or a small group of people, who get the glory when lighting a Christmas tree. And in the background, there is sometimes one person who actually makes the connection.
Though Mayor Lee Berry gave the green light, so to speak, it was his son Jack who connected the orange extension cord to the power source to light up the town Christmas tree at Town Park. The 5 p.m. ceremony kicked off three hours of fun and festivities in town, in and around Main Street with business south from Dixie Burger to north, to Mama Noise pizza and sub shop.
Staff at Kemp Memorial Library welcomed visitors to its remodeling-in-progress area — including new shelves and a friendlier layout for readers and workers alike — while the Ellerbe Volunteer Fire Department hosted Santa and Mrs. Claus, music groups and representatives of the Richmond County Marine Corps League’s Toys for Tots program.
