ROCKINGHAM — It won’t be Sabrina McDonald’s birthday for another six weeks, but on Tuesday she unwrapped an early present as she was recognized as having earned the designation of Certified Municipal Clerk.
McDonald, the assistant city manager for the city of Rockingham, earned the award in mid-October after completing “demanding education requirements,” according to a congratulatory letter from Brenda Kay Young, HMC president with the INternational Institute of Municipal Clerks.
McDonald is the city’s second employee to obtain such distinction; City Clerk Gwendolyn Swinney has also earned that same level of higher education.
“In light of the speed and drastic nature of change these days, lifelong learning is not only desirable, it is necessary for all in local government to keep pace with growing demands and changing needs of the citizens we serve,” Young wrote to McDonald. “We applaud your educational accomplishments and achievement of this milestone and congratulate you on your personal pursuit of professional excellence.
City Manager Monty Crump noted Tuesday during the City Council’s regular monthly public meeting that McDonald has earned the recognition.
“Sabrina, we’re real proud of you,” said Councilman Gene Willard.
McDonald was given a framed certificate and a CMC lapel pin.
