A work crew from Duke Energy is on scene today at Richmond Village, a Tri-City Inc. shopping center that includes Belk and J.C. Penney, located at Rockingham Road and Highway Business 74. The existing building is a former bank The goal is to install a telephone and run a power line from the business to pole.

Kelly Kustak, director of operations for Restaurant Management Group (RMG), said company officials are eying an early December opening. Though his company was not involved in the first Little Caesars venture in Rockingham, he said the brand has experienced a resurgence in recent years.

RMG owns and operates 43 Little Caeasars restaurants in five states. The company owns the Southern Pines, Laurinburg and Sanford locations. In Rockingham, it will be carryout only — no delivery and no buffet, but there is a pick-up window.

Neil Robinette, of Tri-City, said his company has had a lease with the franchisee for “quite some time” but work only recently began moving on the upfit of the building. Robinette said his company normally handles that task but the franchisee took charge on this project.

“It’s looking really good,” Robinette said.

The company already is taking applications, which are available from inside a purple plastic folder attached to the storefront. On Thursday before lunch, two Rockingham women submitted their applications. Jamila Harrison, 24, and Britany Jones, 23, said they were driving by the location and saw the large “Now Hiring” banner. It caught their attention.

Kustak said the review of applications will begin immediately. Little Caesars workers must be at least 16 years old, Kustak said. He expects the store to hire “at least 20” mostly part-time associates.

“I think Little Caesars will be a great addition to Rockingham,” Robinette said of the franchise that’s popular for its $5 “hot-and-ready” pizza, a pizza experience that offers little wait time. “It’ll give people another good opportunity. It’s a nice eatery that I think will do very well. We’re certainly excited we were able to get them to come to our center.”

It will be the fourth Little Caesars option in the region. The 50-year-old Detroit-based company became well-known for its “Pizza Pizza!” double-word tagline.

When this story was published Thursday, readers were overwhelmingly supportive. On the Post’s Facebook page alone, the article generated 79 shares, 122 likes and 50 comments. Some were pleased that the company was staying away from new construction by renovating an existing building. That’s not by accident, Kustak said.

“We definitely try to leverage existing properties,” Kustak said.

aubrey , when we have a population of young that dont want to go to a movie to fight, drink, deal drugs and cut up the seats , maybt ,then maybe we will get a movie house . when parents dont use it as a baby sitting service, dropping off the kids to spend all day saturday at the movie while parents do their thing. When throwing drinks and pop corn at other viewers is seen as not cool, then I hope we can have a theatre .
