Far too many people think there’s nothing to do in or around Richmond County. Perhaps it’s that those people simply aren’t looking.

Now that Thanksgiving 2014 is history, it’s time to look at Christmas events coming up in the area. Don’t procrastinate; the sooner you look ahead, the sooner you can begin planning which events are hit-or-miss and which ones you simply don’t want to pass up.

Through Christmas Eve — Drew Carpenter’s annual Toys for Tots drive, Poplar Street, Hamlet

Dec. 4 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. — Ellerbe Hometown Christmas

Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. — Christmas tree lighting at Dobbins Heights Town Hall

Dec. 5 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. — Old-Fashioned Christmas at The Derby Store, Derby

Dec. 5 and Dec. 6 — Scenes of Christ drive-through display at Mount Olive Baptist Church

Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. — 2nd annual Shop with a Cop Polar Bear 5K – Wadesboro

Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. — Inaugural Norman Tree Lighting

Dec. 7 at 5 p.m. — First Baptist Church of Rockingham choir will present a Christmas program

Dec. 11 at 3:30 p.m. — Hamlet Christmas Parade

Dec. 12 and Dec. 12 — Old-Fashioned Christmas in Hamlet

Dec. 13 — Cheraw ChristmasFest, parade in Cheraw, S.C.

Dec. 20 from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. — Breakfast with Santa at FATZ Cafe, Rockingham

Dec. 23 — special Christmas Story Time program at Discovery Place KIDS, Rockingham
