Highway 73 West.

The crash occurred one-half mile west of Nelson Store Road and 2.2 miles west of the Richmond County line.

The incident was reported at approximately 3:17 p.m. by a man who reported the accident. The man, who wished not to be identified, said he was inside his vehicle in the front yard talking on his cellphone when “out of nowhere” the navy blue GMC Envoy traveling westbound on Highway 73 “spun out of control,” charged through the small bushes that line his home’s front yard and flipped at least once before coming to rest in the side yard.

“I called 911 right away,” the man said. “I saw all the little kids crying, especially the baby. Thank God I wasn’t hit.”

The youngest, about age 2, was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. An 11-year-old boy was airlifted for medical treatment but authorities indicated it seemed as mostly a precautionary measure. The mother and three other children were transported by ambulance to a Montgomery County hospital. Authorities noted the vehicle is designed to transport a maximum of five people.

The vehicle was still running and a Spanish radio station could be heard as first-respondes, including deputies with  the Moore County Sheriff’s Office and a trooper with the state Highway Patrol, arrived on scene. Trooper Beaman of the Highway Patrol took charge of the investigation. One law enforcement officer suggested distracted driving could be at fault.

SV Towing from Biscoe arrived to haul the vehicle from the scene.
