SBI, ATF called in for vacant house fire

ROCKINGHAM — Representatives of the State Bureau of Investigation and the federal Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms were in Rockingham late Thursday afternoon after an early morning house fire in the city.

The Rockingham Police Department called in members of the State Bureau of Investigation and Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms state and federal agencies after a vacant house was destroyed by fire.

The blaze was reported between midnight and 1 a.m. Thursday, according to a neighbor of the vacant home, located at 105 Aslington St.

The neighbor said the home had been vacant for some time. A “For Sale” sign was nailed to beam on the front porch. According to online records, the home was built in 1960 and rests on 1 acre of land.

Officers with both agencies referred questions to the Rockingham Police Department. An inquiry with the department was not immediately returned.
