Rotary gears up for 59th annual BBQ, Auction

Rockingham Rotary will celebrate its 59th annual BBQ and Auction to be held on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 4, at the North Carolina National Guard Armory on Rockingham Road in Rockingham.rotary

This project has raised over $1 million for the community’s benefit. The annual event includes cash raffles, a BBQ chicken and pork plate sale along with a live auction, a silent auction, country store and bake sale. The event is expected to earn over $60,000 which will be returned to the community in the spring of 2015 in the form of Rotary grants to local organizations doing great things in the community.

It turns out that John Yates, of Rockingham was the winner of the final truck raffle at the 2013 event. Unlike in past years, there will be no new vehicle raffled off. Chuck Cobb, auction chairman, said tickets cost $100 apiece and the cost of the vehicle continued to increase each year. Rotarians chose not to increase the cost of the tickets.

Instead, what was the truck raffle ticket is now the Lucky 4 Ticket. The pickup truck raffle has been changed to an all cash drawing. Odds of winning have increased with four chances to win cash prizes. Tickets are $100 each for chances to win $2,000, $3,000, $4,000 or $5,000, respectively.

Additionally, there will be an early bird drawing $500 if you purchase a ticket on or before Oct.27. The drawing will kick off the excitement prior to the live auction and all of those tickets will be placed back in the Lucky 4 drawing for additional chances to win cash. On the day of the auction the cash prizes will begin early evening and continue throughout the live auction until the end when the $5,000 grand prize is drawn. Tickets can be purchased from any Rotarian. Rotarian Steve Morris chairs this part of the project. A total of 450 Lucky Four Tickets will be sold.

Community support is needed

The annual BBQ and Auction has been extremely successful over the years due to tremendous community support. The Rotary Club is counting on great support from the local community again this year. The goal is to increase profits from the auction proceeds and give that money back to nonprofit agencies in Richmond County. The fundraising auction benefits more than 30 agencies in Richmond County.

To purchase any tickets, donate items to the auction, the county store or bake sale, please contact any Rockingham Rotarian as soon as possible.
