Cher Morse, a Rockingham softball player, is seeking your help to pay her way to a tournament in 2017 in The Netherlands.

The 15-year-old Rockingham resident has been selected to play in The Cup, an international fast pitch tournament in The Netherlands, in 2017.

The cost of the trip will approach $3,500, and she’s looking for help to fund the trip. Morse is selling $5 raffle tickets now through Nov. 30 with a cash prize of $500. The raffle drawing will take place in January at the Queen of Diamonds North in Ohio. Morse said she plans a second raffle in June, with a September drawing, at the Queen of Diamonds Showcase South in Rock Hill, S.C.

In December, Morse said she will begin pursuing corporate sponsorships as well, with 100 percent of the money going to helping fund the trip. She said she hopes her father, Jerry Morse, can travel as her chaperone and any money raised above $3,500 will help to pay for his travel.

According to the tournament website, the tournament seeks not only quality players but quality people as well. The NAST (North American Select Team) prides itself in representing our continent with great athletes as well as great people. These two criteria make our selections much different than most. Further, we do not have tryouts for this program but want athletes to know from across the continent that their dream of playing internationally is just a phone call or email away.

Cher_MorseTournament officials “are very, very selective on who we do take and generally do some follow up — normally not on the ability of the athlete but on her social skills, ability to get along with people, personality, etc.”

The North American Select Team fundraising is monitored by WSM Enterprises which is a not-for-profit group and any check can be written to them. To purchase raffle tickets or otherwise donate to Morse’s trip, contact her at cher.morse@yahoo.com or contact Jerry Morse at 203-671-3910.
