First Richmond County representative chosen
Tiffanee Conrad, Richmond County Livestock Agent has been selected as one of 30 young agriculturists to take part in a two-year leadership program that starts in November.

The program, sponsored by North Carolina Tobacco Trust Fund Commission, consists of seven seminars, a legislative study tour to Washington D.C., an international study tour to Brazil, and a U.S. study tour. The selection process was very stringent with an application and interview. The purpose of this prestigious program is to grow leaders for North Carolina agriculture through personal and civic leadership development. She will be the first person to participate in the program representing Richmond County.
Conrad was selected for this program because of her dedication to the 4-H Youth and Farmers of North Carolina. She coordinates the 4-H Farm Credit Showmanship Circuit and the Richmond County Adult Meat Goat Club.
She graduated from Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in Animal Agribusiness and a master’s degree in Agriculture Education from North Carolina State University. She is a native of Indiana, where she gained inspiration in agriculture from her grandfather, who was a hog, corn and soybean farmer.
Conrad is a member of the North Carolina Cattlemen’s Association, the National Association of County Agricultural Agents and the Cooperative Extension Latino Advisory Council. She serves as the past secretary of the North Carolina Association of County Agricultural Agents and the past president for the South Central District Association of County Agricultural Agents. Conrad is currently the chair for the State Association’s Youth Scholarship Committee. Her Extension responsibilities include Beef Cattle, Sheep, Goats, Horses, Animal Waste, Forages, Wildlife and Ponds.

Conrad strives to use a hands-on approach for effective programming. She teaches producers of all animal species how to do their own fecal egg counts to aid them with parasite control. She also organized a goat training for agents with the livestock specialist Dr. Niki Whitley from NC A&T University and Richmond County farmer John McInnis to help new agents learn hands-on production procedures.
She has arranged many cattle trainings with Richmond County farmer Chris Yaklin for new agents to learn how to pregnancy check their cattle. She is also the recent winner of the Dalton R Proctor youth programming award. Conrad is bi-lingual in English and Spanish and is an advocate for Hispanics in her community. She is concerned about a lack of labor for farms, low profits in farming and the youth in her community.
