Commissioners appoint Firefighter’s Relief Fund board

ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond County commissioners appointed during their Oct. 6 public meeting members of the Firefighter’s Relief Fund.

county_logoDonna Wright, director of Richmond County Emergency Services, said a portion of homeowners’ insurance bills goes to this fund and is distributed to county fire departments on an as-needed basis. Funds could be requested by a firefighter’s family if the firefighter is injured or killed in the line of duty, Wright said.

The funds are collected annually.

The commissioners approved by a 7-0 vote the following individuals to the board: Steve Clark and Carl Clark, of Cordova Fire and Rescue; Gail Gallimore and James Lambeth, of Derby Fire Department; Jeff Collins and Dennis Smith, of East Rockingham Fire Deparmtent; Will Barber and Archie Robinson, of Ellerbe Fire Department; John Taylor and Mike Robbins, of Hoffman Fire Department; Richard Smith and John McInnis, of Mountain Creek Fire Department; Wiley Mabe and John Watkins, of Northside Fire Department; and Jim Chavis and Mart Page, of Rockingham Fire Department.
