The Richmond County Chamber of Commerce is asking for nominations for the “Richmond County Citizen of the Year,” an award given each year to a person for his or her devotion to community service in Richmond County. Deadline for submitting nominations is Monday, Dec. 1.
As 2014 draws to an end, the chamber is now seeking nominees from the community. Nominations for the award come from chamber members and members of the community who see these extraordinary individuals in action day in and day out. A selection committee then selects the recipient in a secret ballot, and the prestigious community service award is presented at the chamber’s Annual Meeting scheduled for early 2015.
Nominees need not be members. To be eligible, however, nominees must have shown distinguished and dedicated service beyond the scope of their regular work life, and their actions should enhance the quality of life for the community of Richmond County.
The selection committee wants to know about the nominee’s family, work, volunteerism, other community involvement and activities outside the local community.
The chamber will honor the recipient at its annual meeting scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 29 at Cole Auditorium. The award and banquet have become a tradition in Richmond County that goes back more than 30 years.

The Citizen of the Year award is presented annually by the chamber and is recognized as the County’s highest honor. The recipient is chosen based on factors regarding their contribution to the community either during the year, or over the course of their lives.
