ROCKINGHAM — The need is never-ending.
So Rebecca Davis, director of the Richmond County Animal Shelter, was thankful when several Big Rock Sports employees hauled in donations of cat food, cat litter, bleach, newspapers, collars, toys and more Friday afternoon. She and the staff and shelter volunteers might be able to do their jobs with the material better, but it’s the animals that will benefit.
Adrienne Harris, human resources manager for Big Rock Sports in Hamlet, said employees chose to collect contributions for the Richmond County Animal Shelter for the second consecutive year as part of the company’s annual Family Day fun. Employees split cash contributions with Backpack Pals, which has been a beneficiary of employees’ generosity for at least four years, Harris said.
At this year’s Fun Day on Sept. 27, workers were given an incentive to give even more — for a nominal cash donation, they were able to throw a pie in their supervisors’ faces. The afternoon also allowed workers’ families to tour the facility and enjoy bounce houses, volleyball, Bingo, corn hole along with a lunch.
Big Rock Sports employees nearly 200 people in Hamlet, Harris said.
