Rockingham Rotary delivers dictionaries

For the ninth consecutive year, members of the Rockingham Rotary Club delivered more than 700 dictionaries to third-grade students across Richmond County.

The project was well underway on Friday. Funds raised from the Rotary’s annual auction and barbecue each November are used to purchase dictionaries that were delivered to 10 schools, including Cordova, Temple Baptist, Second Baptist Day School, West Rockingham Elementary, Washington Street Elementary, L.J. Bell Elementary, Fairview Heights Elementary, Monroe Avenue Elementary, Mineral Springs Elementary and East Rockingham Elementary.

More than 6,300 dictionaries have been given to county students in the past nine years.

Volunteers who helped distribute them included Terry Lewis, Anne Edwards, Caroline Thomas, Mart Page, Vickie Daniel, Sheriff James Clemmons Jr. and John Jackson.

Rockingham Rotary has distributed more than 6,300 dictionaries over the years.
