Obituary: Asa Lassiter

Asa Arnold Lassiter Jr., 76, of Cordova, N.C., passed away Thursday, September 25, 2014 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

flagAsa was born Nov. 10, 1937 in Richmond County, a son of the late Asa Arnold and Maybelle Diggs Lassiter. He had served his country in the United States Air Force and was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. He had been employed with Clark Equipment Company and also with Laurel Hill Paper Company. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sarah Goodwin.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Melba Bolton Lassiter of the home; children, Asa Arnold Lassiter III of Lake Wylie, S.C., John Bolton Lassiter of Lyman, S.C., Sarah Lassiter Payne of Durham, CPO Matthew Duncan Lassiter, USCG of Jacksonville, Fla. and Kelly Jo Harrell of Rockingham; 10 grandchildren and sister, Becky Lassiter Welch of Cordova.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Carter Funeral Home Colonial Chapel in Rockingham with Rev. James Hinson and Rev. Bill Braswell officiating. Interment will follow at Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will see friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at the home.
