Nabbed: Public helps ID debit card fraud suspect

A 31-year-old woman was arrested Friday after being identified by the public in connection with an alleged debit card fraud scheme.

Hamlet Police Department investigators arrested Amanda Gainey for one count of obtaining property by false pretense.

Authorities received a phone call from someone who was able to identify the woman reported on Sept. 24 on PeeDeePost.com while the suspect was using the card in a local convenience store.

That day, the article included images taken from a security camera inside a Hamlet convenience store.

“The photos of Mrs. Gainey were in the newspaper asking for help to identify her,” police said. “The Hamlet Police Deparmtent would like to thank the citizens of Hamlet and the media for their assistance in this matter.”
