On Wednesday, the charity-driven initiative reached the campus of Richmond Community College in Hamlet. On the lawn of the Lindsey-Petris Student Center, Dr. Dale McInnis, college president, took the seat of honor. But members of the Student Government Association, led by SGA President Thomas McDonald, were a little too eager to bring the blue bucket of ice water towards the boss.

With a wave of his left hand, McInnis halted the group that held the bucket, which included McDonald; Teresa Taylor, vice president; Sandra Huneycutt, treasurer; Brandy Covington, delegate; and David McDonald, who helps maintain the grounds at RCC.

“Enjoy the moment,” McInnis cautioned. “My turn’s coming.”

McMinnis had been challenged by state Rep. Ken Goodman. McInnis, in turn, challenged Thomas McDonald, who said he’d complete the challenge Friday.

While the challenge originally was intended to have those challenged decide between getting ice water dumped on them or donating to the ALS Association, many are doing both. Since the end of July, the ALS Association has received more than $100 million in donations due to the Ice Bucket Challenge.

Dozens of people were on hand to watch McInnis get soaked. Many of them recorded the event on their smartphones through video to remember the moment.
