East Rock firefighters douse grass fire

EAST ROCKINGHAM — East Rockingham Fire Department volunteers responded to a report of a grass fire on Sandhill Road early Saturday evening.

The call to the emergency dispatch center came in at 5:47 p.m. The caller reported seeing what appeared to be a small brush fire on both sides of Sandhill Road, between Eason Drive and Crestway Drive.

Two firefighters assisted with traffic control while firefighter Bill Payne extinguished both small blazes.

It was not known what started either fire, or if they were intentionally set.

The fires were extinguished within a few minutes before traffic along Sandhill Road resumed to normal.
