HAMLET — The Richmond County Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors voted in a noon board meeting on Sept. 10 to support the one-quarter percent county sales and use tax referendum approved earlier by the Richmond County Board of Commissioners.

The Chamber vote comes after the county Commissioners voted July 7 to put the referendum on the November ballot.

In a letter sent to the Chair of the Committee to Promote Growth and Economic Development, Chamber Board Chairman Evans Sheppard stated:

“It is important for Richmond County to plan for future economic development needs that will enable the County to recruit, retain, grow and generate business and create jobs that will increase additional revenue in the County.

With the passage of the bond referendum Nov. 4, Richmond County can add to its repertoire of amenities that would greatly enhance quality of life such as a new recreational complex. The choice is clear. Nov. 4 is an opportunity for the citizens of Richmond County to invest in the future of our community.

The development of a new Recreational Complex would attract many visitors to the County and generate significant revenue for our member businesses. We encourage all citizens to exercise their right to vote and Vote Yes on Nov. 4!”
