’75 RSHS grad killed when car, train collide

Staff report

John Burl Hudson, a 1975 graduate of Richmond Senior High School, and his wife Fiona were killed in a Friday night car crash in Morrisville, according to a WNCN.com report.

Investigators believe the car was trying to make a right-hand turn when it became stuck between the stop arms on the crossing signal as the train approached around 10 p.m.

Hudson, 57, and his wife, 55, lived in Southern Pines.

The train collided with the car, dragging it two-thirds of a mile down the tracks before coming to a stop, according to a Fayetteville Observer report. A town of Morrisville news release indicated there were no other passengers in the vehicle, and there are no reported injuries to the train personnel as a result of the collision.
