Yount honored with state award

Richmond County Schools retiree and former Hoffman resident Betty C. Yount was honored on Wednesday, her 87th birthday, with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by the Governor’s Office.

Yount retired from RCS in 1983.

County Commissioner Don Bryant, and fellow former student Andy Jenkins were among friends and family members who celebrated the event, which was followed by a surprise birthday luncheon on Thursday.

The Long Leaf Pine Society is a non-membership organization dedicated to promoting pride in North Carolina and the people who live here.
