Strike Force meeting to encourage veterans-to-farmers program

NC_masthead_logoA Veterans In Agriculture – Strike Force event will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11 at the Richmond County Agricultural Service Center, 123 Caroline St., Rockingham.

The meeting is for any Veteran or person who is interested in what it takes to get started in farming and ways in which each or the  USDA agencies and others agencies may be able to help in the start-up process.  The main focus for the meeting will be veterans but the information will be geared for anyone wanting to get started.

Participants include U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson, NC Cooperative Extension Service, NC Forest Service, Carolina Farm Credit, NC Farm Bureau, Richmond Community College, Richmond County Veterans Administration and more.

The purpose of Strike Force is to improve the economic viability of communities in poverty areas, promote food security and expand the knowledge of USDA programs which may be beneficial to help meet these goals.
