The 57th annual Richmond County Agricultural Fair will have a retro tune to it this year.

The fair, scheduled for Oct. 7 through Oct. 11 in Hamlet, is anticipating a performance by The Golden Platter, Milton BullockThe Platters became famous in the late 1950s. Bullock joined up in 1964, five  years before the group disbanded.

Rena Shedrick-Marshall, assistant fair manager, said it’s not exactly known what date Bullock will take the stage but she’s hopeful for Oct. 11. Saturday night at the fair, she said, would give him a nice size crowd to sing in front of.

The five-day festival is sponsored by the Hamlet Lions Club and serves as the civic organization’s primary fundraiser by which it funds many of its projects. Between 12,000 and 15,000 people are expected to visit the fair, for which the opening of the 2014 event was delayed a day after heavy rains.

Shedrick-Marshall and the rest of the planners for this year’s event are hopeful the weather cooperates better this time around.

Along with the rides — presumably from Inners Shows, of York, Pa., for the second straight year — the Lions Club will have its Mobile Vision van on site, a team from the veterans rural health outreach initiative, exhibits from the county 4-H program and much more.

Stay tuned to as details for this year’s Richmond County Agricultural Fair are revealed.
