Students opened with “We pray to our God” on stage at Leak Street Cultural Education Center in Rockingham.
The program, supported by area food banks, helps fill the gap between the end of one academic year and the start of another by opening the center’s doors with staff and volunteers to provide not only food but also educational activities.
Friday morning’s hour-long program was opened by dozens of students by singing and clapping in rhythm and song as they walked down the aisle ways of the auditorium and entered the stage. Whitney Strong introduced students as they read poems.
That was followed by a performance by the summer step team, along with an expansive fashion show — with attitude — and the awarding of certificates to students, staff and volunteers.
