ROCKINGHAM — Dozens of area youth participated in the end of the Summer Food and Fun Program at Leak Street Education Cultural Center Friday morning in Rockingham.

The program, supported by area food banks, helps fill the gap between the end of one academic year and the start of another by opening the center’s doors with staff and volunteers to provide not only food but also educational activities.

Friday morning’s hour-long program was opened by dozens of students by singing and clapping in rhythm and song as they walked down the aisle ways of the auditorium and entered the stage. Whitney Strong introduced students as they read poems.

That was followed by a performance by the summer step team, along with an expansive fashion show — with attitude — and the awarding of certificates to students, staff and volunteers.

Wow Kevin…you are good. Before I could eat my lunch you have the article published.
Thank you for attending. Matt (I had not met him before) said he only found out about this yesterday. I hope you found it worth you time to drop everything and come by the school. I appreciate it so much. Did you hear Mr. Watkins speech? It is amazing how faith and community keeps that place alive! Jackie
