Hamlet man charged in home burglary

A 32-year-old Hamlet man is being held in the Richmond County Detention Center on a $50,000 secured bond after beingĀ arrested and charged with a home burglary stemming from an Aug. 12 incident at a Boyette Street home.

Hamlet police reported the victim stated that someone made entry to his home and took his wallet in which he had placed on a counter near his back door along with some other personal items before he went to bed.

The victim stated that when he woke up the next morning, his wallet was gone. The investigation led to a witness that advised he took Michael Charles Knight to the victim’s home around 1 a.m. that same day. The witness advised that when Knight returned to the vehicle from the rear of the victim’s residence, he had money and was in a hurry to leave the residence.

Knight was subsequently charged with one count each of felony first-degree burglary and first-degree larceny after a breaking and entering. He is scheduled to appear on Aug. 28 in Richmond County District Court.
