Update: Warrants issued for suspect in beating, shooting of R’ham man

Authorities have issued arrest warrants for the suspect wanted in connection to a Thursday night beating and shooting of a Rockingham man that took place on the Anson County side of the Pee Dee River.

police-line-do-not-cross-15136252Anson County Sheriff Tommy W. Allen Jr. said the suspect, Michael Kevin Allen, 35, of Rockingham, is wanted for assault while pointing a gun, assault inflicting a serious injury, assault with a deadly weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to witness accounts, the suspect alleged the victim¬†had killed his mother in a vehicle accident several years. Thursday’s act was considered revenge, police said.

Allen said the search for the suspect has been a cooperative effort between Richmond County and Anson County law enforcement agencies.

“We’ve been looking for him with officers from over there this afternoon,” Allen said. “He’s not at his usual hangouts.”

Allen urged anyone with information as to the whereabouts of the suspect, Michael Kevin Allen, should call the Anson County Sheriff’s Office at 704-694-4188 or the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office at 910-895-3232.

The victim, William David Scott, 54, of Rockingham, was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte Thursday night. Sheriff Allen said Scott was treated and released earlier today. The sheriff added that investigators interviewed Scott after his return home.
