SOUTHERN PINES – The Pinehurst Concours Foundation presented Sandhills Children’s Center with a donation of $2,500 on Tuesday night at Brixx Pizza.

Using proceeds from the 2014 Pinehurst Concours d’Elegance vintage car showcase, the foundation gave similar donations to three other Moore County organizations, including First Tee of the Sandhills, Foundation of FirstHealth and The Patriot Foundation.

Jay Howard, president of the Pinehurst Concours, and board advisor, Matt West, were on hand to make the presentation. Sandhills Children’s Center CEO Melanie Gayle was present to receive the gift.

“Coming into a community and putting on an event is about more than making a dollar,” said Howard. “We have wanted from the beginning to be entrenched in this community and to be embraced; giving to good organizations is all a part of that goal.”

Sandhills Children’s Center is a private non-profit organization and relies on private gifts such as this one in order to continue serving families in the Sandhills Region. “We are so grateful to the Pinehurst Concours Foundation for choosing Sandhills Children’s Center among the organizations it supports,” said Gayle. “It says a lot when one of the first priorities of a new event is to give back to the community.”

The Pinehurst Concours d’Elegance took place May 2-4, 2014 at Pinehurst Resort. The event staged 119 rare and vintage cars in 12 classes. Over 6,000 patrons attended this year’s event. “When we came to the Sandhills to put on the Concours, we knew it was important to build it from the ground up as a community event,” said Dave Droschak,

Pinehurst Concours Communications Director. “The organizations we chose to support provide important services and are representative of Moore County community.”

The third annual Pinehurst Concours d’Elegance is scheduled to take place May 1-3, 2015 at Pinehurst Resort. The Pinehurst Concours Foundation will continue to support Moore County organizations with a portion of proceeds from the event.

Sandhills Children’s Center provides an inclusive day educational program for children with and without disabilities with campuses in Richmond and Moore Counties. Along with its two campuses and an in-home outreach program, the Center serves around 350 children and is recognized by the state of North Carolina as a five-star rated childcare provider.
