Richmond County farmers can apply for Cost Share funding

With the beginning of the new 2014-2015 year, Richmond County Soil and Water Conservation District will be receiving allocation from the Ag Cost Share Program from the NC Department of Agricultural.

The North Carolina Agriculture Cost Share Program is a state funded program administered to help reduce the input of non-point source pollution into our streams, lakes, and rivers.  This reduction is achieved by providing cost share assistance to agricultural landowners and operators who use Best Management Practices (BMPs) to reduce pollutants (sediment, animal waste, pesticides, nutrients, etc.) leaving the land and entering the waters. Cost Share amounts are up to 75 percent of average cost to install BMPs.

Some practices include: Animal Exclusion (fencing for cattle from streams). Animal Waste Management such as: waste storage structure, spreaders, and composters, Crop land conversion, no till, cover crops and many more. We have available to rent a No-Till Drill for the amount of $8/acre for drills 12-foot and also a 6-foot (mainly for grasses). There is a $10 processing fee.

If you are a land owner or renter of an existing agricultural operation that has been operating for more than three years, you are eligible to participate in the North Carolina Agriculture Cost Share Program.
