Obituary: Frances Holland

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. — Mrs. Frances Monroe Holland, 94, of Rockingham passed away Friday, July 25, 2014 at her home.

She and her husband, Richard, relocated to Rockingham in 1984 from their hometown area of Hampton Roads/Tidewater, Va.

Mrs. Holland, beyond being a dedicated mother, wonderful sister, grandmother, great grandmother, mother in law and friend has a legacy in child evangelism and intercessory prayer. During her 54-year Christian walk she always had a heart for foreign missions and spent years supporting Bible smuggling into Russia, and various missionaries and ministries around the world. She was a constant witness to her faith and her relationship with her Savior, Jesus Christ. Even during her home bound years and final bed bound months when anyone came into her home, her first priority was to find out if they knew Jesus as their personal savior. If they didn’t, she indeed made sure they did before they left.

She is survived by two daughters, Joyce Hunter of Narvon, Pa., and Jeanne Holland Newton and son-in-law Steve Newton, retired N.C. State Highway Patrol Captain of Rockingham; five grandchildren, Billy Ruffin, Heidi Hunter Loncosky, Ricky Hunter, Frankie and Richard McManus; six great-grandchildren, Ashlea Loncosky Good and Daniel Loncosky, Richard, Todd and Kimberly McManus and Billy Ruffin, Jr.; three sisters, Blanche Summers of Virginia Beach; Jane Merrell of Groves, Texas, and June Cockrill of Seattle, and a special niece, Linda Beasley Hawks of Hamlet.

Her husband, Richard Daniel Holland; a daughter, Grace (Gay) Monroe McManus, and a sister, Rosa Lee Beasley and three brothers, Homer Frederick Monroe Jr., Harold Straley Monroe and William Windsor Monroe preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 29 at First Assembly of God in Rockingham with Pastor Gene Alexander officiating with a special tribute by long time friend of the family, Jeff Holland of Clayton, N.C.

Burial will follow at Richmond Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to First Assembly of God, 160 Clemmer Road, Rockingham, NC 28379 for A.G. Missions and/or Gideons.

Watson – King Funeral Home in Hamlet is assisting Mrs. Holland’s family. Online condolences may be sent to www.watson-kingfuneralhome.com.
